Garlands

Schede

The flowers, the leaves and the fruits are symbols of life and of abundance. These symbols are constructed into garlands and crowns of different shapes and different dimensions which were of frequent use in roman art and architecture to decorate funeral urns, memorial stones and funeral monuments. These symbols were brought back during the Renaissance period as protagonists of a lot of western artwork including funeral art from the 19th century, in which they are sustained by little angels and by cherubs (a representation of a naked child in the Renaissance period).
